In my last Blog – Why don’t they just Quit? I discussed the conundrum of smoking. This conundrum – something hard to understand or explain – is really a three linked chain: ADDICTION/BEHAVIOUR/SOCIO-CULTURAL. In this Blog I’ll talk about medications to help solve this conundrum for smokers. When I first...

      Hi Henry:

      Thanks for you interest.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that there will never be “a best time” to start the process to a smoke-free life.
As Nike is fond of saying, “Just Do It”

I look forward to your call.

      Cheers.

    Hi Lawrence:

The credit should go to Lee my webmaster. The cartoon is humorous but the new graphic Health Canada warnings are defintely not.
I did a presentation last evening to a group of professionals and smokers: Why don’t they just quit? – The smoking conundrum.
The warnings are an example of aversion therapy. Every time a smoker reaches for a cigarette they get one of 16 ghastly warnings.
…… It demonstrates the power of cigarette delivered nicotine

      Hi Rosee:

Alas, the Driven-To-Quit is no mor :-( Unfortunatel the Ontario Ministry of Health will no longer fund DTQ. The budget for tobacco has been slashed and the Canadian Cancer Society can’t carry it alone. However, here in Thunder Bay our local coalition is going to run a smaller competition for World No Tobacco Day which is the last day of May. The prices will be smaller of course – no car or $5K trips :-(
So, stay tuned. Call or email me if you need some “coaching.”

      Cheers.

      Hi Corey:
Sorry to hear about your Uncle. Please tell him that if he’d like some “coaching” to give me a call. Stopping smoking is a process and there’s no “magic” way to do it. It takes planning/proper medication/coaching.
I’m like a personal trainer working with smokers.
      Please keep in touch.

      Cheers.

Any idea on hypnosis smoking cessation? I like the idea of being able to put something on when I go to sleep, but don’t want something that is some gag and doesnt actually work.

Downloaded a free app for it on my samsung galaxy, havent even looked at it yet though, any idea?

      Hi Akim:

No, I don’t recommend hypnosis or acupuncture. I have to follow “Clinical Practice Guidelines for Treating Nicotine Dependence”. You cannot show with clinical tries that either of these two methods are any more successfulthan “cold turkey”. I trained at the Mayo Clinic and they don’t use hypnosis or acupuncture. I go to at least one major conference a year (for the past 12-14 years) and I’ve never seen a presentation on either of these two topics.
Give me a call if you want any further information.

      Cheers.

      Jim :-)
